The Ledger

Intro

Verse 1

Summer in the northern pines, the woods are turning green
A boy who rode a thousand miles, caught up in the unseen
Just a sudden halt upon the road, beneath the burning sun
The journey ended on the street before it had begun
Twenty-six years of hoping, traded for the night
While the sirens sing a distant song, and fade into the white.

Chorus

And the list keeps getting longer, from the valley to the snow
Heavy doors and narrow beds, where the forgotten go
We build a wall of silence, lay it down brick by cold white brick
While the shadows are stacking up, and the ledger’s getting thick.

Verse 2

Down in the canyon heat, locked behind the line
A fever took ahold of him, a slowly fading sign
He asked the keeper for some help, they told him wait your turn
Said we’ll get around to looking at it, let the embers burn
A quiet journey to the end, inside a lonely room
Fading out without a friend, swallowed by the gloom.
