Road Runner Physics
The trick was easy when the sky was heavy
Pulling moisture from the atmosphere
We cheered the magic, told them to hold steady
But now the air is dusty, cracked, and clear
Yeah, you can play the wizard for a while
'Til the well goes dry beneath the painted smile
After a point, the illusions fade
Under the scorching sun we made
There is no magic left to find
We’ve left the miracles behind
We're walking off a canyon ledge blindfold
Waiting for the empty air to hold our weight
Hoping for Road Runner physics to unfold
Before the gravity decides our fate
But there’s no painted ground to catch the fall
Just the quiet bottom waiting for us all
The wedding feasts have run completely dry
There is no water left to turn to wine
Even the serpents in the dust begin to cry
Sinking desperate fangs into the nearest vine
They’re turning vampiric, hunting for the dew
A missing plague the Old Testament never knew
After a point, the illusions fade
Under the scorching sun we made
There is no magic left to find
We’ve left the miracles behind
We're walking off a canyon ledge blindfold
Waiting for the empty air to hold our weight
Hoping for Road Runner physics to unfold
Before the gravity decides our fate
But there’s no painted ground to catch the fall
Just the quiet bottom waiting for us all
We hovered in the air for just a second
Looked at the camera and held up a little sign
We ignored every warning that the desert beckoned
And thought we could negotiate the drop this time
But you can't cheat the drop when the ground is gone!
We're suspended in the air, but not for long!
Yeah, we walked right off the canyon ledge blindfold
Waiting for the empty air to hold our weight
Hoping for Road Runner physics to unfold
But gravity is sealing up the gate
There’s no painted ground to catch the fall
Just the quiet bottom waiting for us all
No magic.
No water.
No wine.
Just the serpents in the sand.
No cartoon physics left to save the promised land.
Look down.
Look down.
