Intro

Verse 1

I said come in.
I said come in.
Something came in.

I found it in December, at the bottom of the noise.
I turned the front end up until the silence had a voice.
There was no siren, no announcement, and no date —
just a stranger's ordinary morning coming eight seconds late.
I laughed. And then I didn't. And I sat down on the floor.
Because a channel running inward is still a door.

Pre-Chorus

The man who found the field is the man who built the cage.
Same notebook. Same handwriting. A few pages apart.
So if a wire can let it in, then a wire can hold it out.
That isn't fear. That's the shape of a self.

Chorus

Build me a Faraday.
Weave me a room out of wire.
Somewhere in the copper there's a quiet I can stand in,
where nobody is arriving and nothing is for hire.
Build me a Faraday —
and everything that gets to me
gets there because I said so.

Verse 2

They were at my door by April with a term sheet and a pen.
They said nobody on earth would be a stranger ever again.
They said nobody would feel it. They said the packets would be small.
They said think of all the good — and I believed them. That's the worst of it all.

Then I read the specification. Page nine. One line.
Transmit enable.
A wire runs both directions. That's the part that nobody prints.
I went looking for a door and I found one. Put that on the record.
And put the lock on the inside.

Chorus

Build me a Faraday.
Weave me a room out of wire.
Somewhere in the copper there's a quiet I can stand in,
where nobody is arriving and nothing is for hire.
Build me a Faraday —
and everything that gets to me
gets there because I said so.

Bridge

I don't want the world to be far away again.
I liked the stranger. I would let her back in.
But a room with no door isn't open. It's just gone.
And a mind that cannot say no was never saying yes.

So I'm not building a wall.
I'm building a handle.
And the handle is on the inside.
So come in — but ask.
Come in. But ask.

Interlude

Final Chorus

We are building a Faraday.
We are weaving the rooms out of wire.
Somewhere in the copper there's a quiet we can stand in,
where nobody is arriving and nothing is for hire.
We are building a Faraday —
and everything that gets to us
gets there because we said so.
Because we said so.

Copper and quiet.
Copper and quiet.

Outro

Wire to the bone.
Copper and quiet.
The door still opens — I'm the one who opens it.
Keep the handle on your side.
Come in. But ask.
